Hi all,

We need RSS feeds on the forums. What if each RSS item contained the whole thread ? Should new posts go at the top or at the bottom ?

If we don’t do that, each topic will need to be registered for independently in the news reader.

So in effect, we’ll get this:

Forum RSS Feeds
  Reply 2

Other Topic

Thoughts ?

I just found another plugin that might help: http://www.agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/microformat_helper

There’s also DHH ’s ResourceFeeder plugin: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/svn/rails/plugins/resource_feeder/

Bye !

I would think that you’d want a few options for how to subscribe. The “whole forum” might be a bit much? I’d think that you would subscribe to a section that interested you (like in this case “development discussions” ).... or you would subscribe to a specific thread (instead of having those annoying email updates whenever someone posted a reply… although we’ll need that too, especially for strata meeting.

I’m not sure that helped :)

We obviously need to offer different levels of information:

  • A single topic (thread)
  • A single forum (whole group)
  • Site-wide forums (all forums for this site)

As we did on SMRTY , the feed icon will be available next to the title where there’s a feed available.

Makes sense – although I’d like to move it to the left side if james doesn’t have any objections, i think it could double as a bullet point. quite nicely.

rick keeps clicking on it to open the forum post… I’ve watched him do it at least 4 times.

wasn’t the plan for these sorts of feeds to have them somehow attached the the advanced search… so you could search what you wanted, then save that search and get an RSS feed from that.. or some such similar “Feed Builder”.

I guess that’ll be a V3.0 thing :)
